Christmas humour

[Aikido-ho-ho-ho!
Happy Falls for 2008]

Some aikido practitioners woke up today with a magnificent present in their e-mail boxes
After asking permission to its author we share this present with all readers of this blog wishing them a very Merry Christmas.

"Dear tatami colleagues:

Santa Claus himself told me (in the presence of Baby Jesus, so I believe him, and also because there was no sake in front of him) that the famous shout (he called kiai)Ho-ho-ho! heard on Christmas night when Santa is distributing the presents is actually derived from the word AIKIDO. Amazing isn't it?!

Once upon a time, Santa, in the presence of O-Sensei, was called to carry out his Dan exam. Santa Claus, already an old man, had forgotten his Gi and was wearing a red kimono. Even so, Sensei Ueshiba allowed him to take the exam and Santa passed (there must have really been some sake here). Santa was all happy and cheerful, constantly repeating "Aikido-ho-ho-ho!". O-Sensei awarded him the black belt, he never took off again, as one can see in his every photo. Some say that even 0-Sensei changed his fearful kiai to "Ho-ho-ho!" afterwards, but that is speculation (although Aiki News says they have it recorded).

So, you didn't know about this story did you? But I thought it was time to spread it out and this is my Christmas present to you all, with friendship!!!
Rogério Silva”

Another one of those moments much like Sensei Rogério. Thank you for the present and all patience demonstrated.
Thank you also for the work developed on the tatami, sharing knowledge and spreading the good mood so characteristic of him, as well as his extremely refined sense of humour.
AIKI greatings,
Camilo Carneiro

There is but one Aikido!

We have made a huge effort to grow with strong credibility and solid foundations, but the only way to assess ourselves is through the participation of aikido practitioners. Therefore it was with great pleasure the we welcomed practitioners from other associations. We speak of Francisco Queiroga, José Alberto e José Manuel Silva, to whom we thank the availability and friendship expressed hoping to see them again sometime soon. Aikido, far from the different schools and styles, is but one...the one from O Sensei Morihei Ueshiba. We therefore believe we follow the desires of our Master by gathering such diverse intelects in our aikido sessions.

Thanks and apologies

It wouldn’t be fair to mention the Lamego seminar without referring to the person responsible by its organization. We speak of Camilo Carneiro that deserves all recognition and respect for his effort in making everyone feel “at home”.
However blameless, he had to deal with a few vexing situations that occurred due to the lack of civility and/or maturity of some karate athlets also present at the sports complex. After acknowledging such disrespectful behaviour, those accountable for the Shotokan Karate attendants promptly took the responsibility for the incident reprehending all involved and warning them of the consequences of such acts.
Nevertheless, APARN would like to present its most sincere apologies to Luis Miguel Costa for the situation he was a victim of.

Snapshots – Part 1

The APARN activities calendar for this season ended on high note with the Lamego seminar last July. Here are a few pictures we believe are representative of the spirit lived during the event.

Lamego seminar

As previously announced here, the city of Lamego welcomed, this past weekend, the aikido seminar organized by APARN to end the sports season. The event counted with the participation of aikido practitioners from the Porto, Bragança and Lamego poles, as well as with non-associates to whom APARN would like to thank the interest taken. Once again all those present where able to acknowledge the talent, graciousness, harmony and friendliness of Sensei Luc Deweys that doesn't cease to surprise us some more. To Sensei Luc Deweys this Association also wishes to send its most sincere thanks.
